As the year comes to a close, sadly this series of Spoken Word events in Chapel en le Frith is coming to an end on Wednesday, November 29th.
It’s been a lot of fun, listening to diverse voices of work by published and unpublished writers, and seeing people get their public speaking feet wet. I shall be there tonight, reading my latest autumn poem, and another favourite (and what it has to do with the novel I’m working on.)
Come and share your poetry or short piece of prose, or just to listen. It’s a free event, hosted by author, Margaret Holbrook.
Address: 29 Market St, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak SK23 0HP
Meet me and other Derbyshire writers in Chesterfield.
I’ll be there between 1 – 4pm in the Pavements Shopping Centre.
“Looking for something to read over the summer? Why not come along to our Pop-up Book Fair and browse a selection of books written by Derbyshire writers. The authors will be selling their books and chatting about their work. There will also be a library stall with information about activities and opportunities for readers and writers.”

Three local authors between them have something for everyone. Let Margaret Holbrook, Mark Henderson and Pamela Turton entertain you with stories and extracts from their range of traditional and contemporary writings.
Each of the authors will be reading from their work, for about 20 minutes each (with drinkies break) followed by a Q&A session. So get those questions ready! Mark is a natural storyteller and will read from his latest ‘Folktales of the Peak District’. Margaret has written several books of poems/stories; her latest is ‘Hobby Horses Will Dance’. Pamela has also published poetry and novels. She’ll be giving you a taster of her 4th novel, due out this August too.
Merry Month of May Theme – Open Mic Event
Saturday 28th May, 10.30am – 12.30pm
Tomorrow, come and share readings, or just to listen, about the inspiring month of May. I’ll be reading a scene from my fourth novel (which I’m currently editing- bit of a slog – hoping to launch this summer!)
If you are starting out or are a seasoned performer, come along and read your own work, or those of other writers, in a very encouraging atmosphere. Bring something on the theme of May, or any work of your own choice. Ideas and suggestions around the month of May included: Merry Month of May, Maypole, May Day, May Flower, Whit Walks and Brass Bands. All welcome!
