As the year comes to a close, sadly this series of Spoken Word events in Chapel en le Frith is coming to an end on Wednesday, November 29th.
It’s been a lot of fun, listening to diverse voices of work by published and unpublished writers, and seeing people get their public speaking feet wet. I shall be there tonight, reading my latest autumn poem, and another favourite (and what it has to do with the novel I’m working on.)
Come and share your poetry or short piece of prose, or just to listen. It’s a free event, hosted by author, Margaret Holbrook.
Address: 29 Market St, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak SK23 0HP
Poynton Library is celebrating National Poetry Day with its second annual Poetry Trail, brainchild of author Margaret Holbrook. A range of diverse and captivating poems are displayed in the library and around the lovely shops and eateries of Poynton. I have two poems in the library. I shall read them and a new poem inspired by this year’s theme of Freedom at the open mic event (see below). Everyone welcome to this free event to recite or listen.
National Poetry Day 2017 Open Mic

Poynton Poetry Trail – 28th September to 2nd October
Still time to do the trail! – it’s a treat (on Saturday library closes at 1pm.) Guides to the trail are available in the Civic Hall and the library. Car parking right on site.
11th September Poynton OpenMic – Guest Poet is Helen Kay (Poultry Lovers Guide to Poetry)
I don’t have any hen poems, although I do have one called ‘Game Bird in Autumn’ which I shall read, and my latest, on this National Poetry Month theme of Freedom.
Hosted by local writer, Margaret Holbrook, the events take place on the second Monday of every month at the charming UBAgenes in Poynton – the food and drink is as fresh and classy as the decor, by the way. Apart from the guest writers, everyone is invited to read from their own work or favourite authors and poets, or sit back and be entertained by the others. 7.30 p.m – 9.30 pm.
Meet me and other Derbyshire writers in Chesterfield.
I’ll be there between 1 – 4pm in the Pavements Shopping Centre.
“Looking for something to read over the summer? Why not come along to our Pop-up Book Fair and browse a selection of books written by Derbyshire writers. The authors will be selling their books and chatting about their work. There will also be a library stall with information about activities and opportunities for readers and writers.”
